Themes for Razel

Music is as close to Myth as magic and mythology are, so I try to incorporate it whenever possible. Mostly, this means finding songs that fit my story.

I have over 10 playlists--from describing the different chapters of Myth to songs the main characters would listen to to theme songs.

Here is the playlist for the first 'chapter' (story), Razel, accompanied with a lyric that shows why.

"Believe" by the Bravery

So give me something to believe
Cause I am living just to breathe
And I need something more
To keep on breathing for
So give me something to believe

"Superman" by Five For Fighting (mostly describes Miles during pre-Aurora)

Wish that I could cry
Fall upon my knees
Find a way to lie
About a home I’ll never see

"Little Things" by Good Charlotte

Yeah, this song is dedicated
To every kid who ever got picked last in gym class
To every kid who never had a date to no school dance
To everyone whose ever been called a freak
This is for you

"Friend Like That" by Hawk Nelson

I need Somebody on the inside
I want Somebody who can set me free
I'm not The only one who feels like this
I've got a few others around me

"Somewhere I Belong" by Linkin Park (Main Theme of Razel)

I wanna heal, I wanna feel what I thought was never real
I wanna let go of the pain I’ve held so long
(Erase all the pain till it’s gone)
I wanna heal, I wanna feel like I’m close to something real
I wanna find something I’ve wanted all along

Somewhere I belong

"Real World" by Matchbox Twenty

I wonder what it's like to be a super hero
I wonder where I'd go if I could fly around downtown
From some other planet, I get this funky high on yellow sun
Boy I bet my friends will all be stunned, they're stunned

"All I Want" by The Offspring

Day after day your home life's a wreck
The powers that be just breathe down your neck
You get no respect, you get no relief
You gotta speak up and yell out your piece

"Franklin" by Paramore (Theme for the end of Razel)

And when we get home, I know we won't be home at all
This place we live, it is not where we belong
And I miss who we were in the town that we could call our own
Going back to get away after everything has changed

"Waiting" by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

Waiting for this life to change
Seems like it's taking me forever
And I can't hold on
This light is breaking into the day

"Calling All Angels" by Train

I need a sign to let me know you're here
All of these lines are being crossed over the atmosphere
I need to know that things are gonna look up
'Cause I feel us drowning in a sea spilled from a cup
When there is no place safe and no safe place to put my head
When you feel the world shake from the words that are said

"Ride" by the Vines

That's the start, the middle, and the end
Aren't you glad the universe pretends
If I don't get this message home
Once again I'm gonna hate alone
